Award history

The Sempre ‘Making a Difference’ Award is an occasional award, normally in the field of music education (broadly conceived) to support an individual or group who are working with, or seeking to support, an under-served community and for whom a new music education initiative would have a specific benefit.

Purpose of the award

The Sempre ‘Making a Difference’ Award are open to anyone working in an area embraced by the Society’s aims.

Total fund available

Awards are by negotiation, related to needs and costs.

Eligibility

The Sempre ‘Making a Difference’ Award is open to anyone working in an area embraced by the Society’s aims.

Criteria

The criteria by which applications will be judged include the quality, originality, significance and likely impact of the proposed initiative in terms of making a real difference through music education to the members of the chosen underserved community.

Decision-making process

All applications will be considered by the Sempre Trustees. Normally, applicants will be informed of the decision within six weeks of the outcome. The award should be taken up within the 12-month period following the decision, or by negotiation. Any award not claimed within this period without notification will be deemed to have lapsed. The decision of the Trustees is final, and the Society regrets that it is unable to enter into any correspondence regarding its decision. Each application is treated individually on its merits; hence previous applicants are not precluded from applying.

Feedback from award recipients

Successful recipients are expected to write a brief report summarising the outcome of their research, including any related images (with appropriate ethical approval) for posting on the Sempre website. Please contact the Sempre Administrator for more details.

Applicants should contact the complete the Sempre Chair, Professor Graham Welch, in the first instance. Subsequently, the Chair will take a written proposal to the Sempre Trustees for consideration. This will include inter alia details of the aims of the proposed project, leadership and management aspects, and proposed success criteria.
