Overview

SysMus24 brought together a global community of early-career researchers to explore how we study, understand and experience music in all its forms. Hosted by the University of Jyväskylä’s Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body and Brain, the conference mixed talks, posters and workshops with a strong emphasis on curiosity, open discussion and hands-on experimentation.

Across the programme, presenters shared new work on music perception, performance, technology, education, and the psychology of music—reflecting the range and richness of systematic musicology today. The hybrid format made it easy for participants to take part from anywhere, contributing to lively exchanges across disciplines and cultures.

The conference report distils three days of conversation, research and collaboration into a clear overview of the themes, insights and ideas that shaped SysMus24, offering a snapshot of where the field is heading next.
