Celebrating a Successful Sempre Student Study Day

The Sempre Student Study Day brought together a wonderfully diverse group of doctoral researchers, some attending in person at UCL, others joining online, to share thought-provoking work across music psychology, music education, and related fields. The day offered a vibrant mix of presentations on topics from AI in music education to cross-cultural performance anxiety, mood and music, infant language learning through song, multisensory concert experiences, choral singing and hearing impairment, and more. The atmosphere was lively and collegial: participants engaged in stimulating discussion, made new connections, and many stayed on after the formal session to continue conversations over refreshments.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Study Day such a success. We hope the event has inspired new ideas and collaborations, and we look forward to seeing how these student research projects grow and develop in the months and years ahead.

Sempre Student Study Day – Programme Now Available

We are pleased to share the full programme for the Sempre Student Study Day, taking place on 26 November 2025 at Room 938, iMerc, UCL Institute of Education, 20 Bedford Way, London WC1H 0AL. A Zoom link is available for remote attendees.

Call for Papers

The Sempre Autumn Conference will be a hybrid Student Study Day, taking place on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, from 11:00am to 2:00pm. The event will be held both in Room 938 and online, featuring a mix of student presentations and talks by invited speakers.

The event is open to all; doctoral students at any stage of their research, as well as those thinking of applying for doctoral study, are particularly welcome.

We invite proposals for presentations (15 minutes + 5 for Q&A) from doctoral students, on any aspect of music psychology or music education. Proposals should have the following structure (ideally on one side of A4):

• Name, institution, course of study + contact details
• Aims
• Methodological Approach
• Results
• Conclusion and discussion
