RSME Seeks an additional Assistant Editor

Research Studies in Music Education is seeking a second Assistant Editor. This role will involve close collaboration with the existing Assistant Editor, Elizabeth MacGregor, and Editors-in-Chief Julie Ballantyne and Alexis Kallio, in supporting the journal’s review and editorial processes.

The position carries an annual honorarium of £2,000 (subject to tax, where applicable), for an estimated commitment of approximately 6 hours per week, depending on the flow of editorial activity. The role includes:

  • Proofreading and editorial preparation of accepted manuscripts prior to submission to the publisher, including checking and refining logic, flow, style, grammar, academic conventions, and consistency.
  • Communicating with authors regarding editorial queries, corrections, and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Uploading and managing manuscripts through the SAGE online submission and editorial system, ensuring that materials are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Liaising closely with the other Assistant Editor and Editors-in-Chief to coordinate editorial workflows and respond to emerging priorities.
  • Providing general editorial support to the Editors and Editorial Board as required.

We are seeking someone with exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational and time-management skills, and confidence working with complex online systems. The role also requires a high level of discretion and professionalism, as well as a sound knowledge of the academic fields represented by the journal.

This role would suit a doctoral or post-doctoral researcher with relevant experience in music education or related disciplines, keen to contribute to the ongoing development and publication of one of the leading international scholarly journals in music education.
