2019 Sempre Lifetime Achievement Award recipients

We are delighted to announce that the Trustees have made two new SEMPRE Lifetime Achievement Awards (June, 2019). The recipients are Jeanne Bamberger (USA) and Susan Hallam (UK). Both have a long and distinguished research and publications profile and each has significantly advanced the field of music psychology, both in general and especially in terms of their areas of specialist interest and expertise. Jeanne Bamberger is Professor of Music and Urban Education Emerita, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Adjunct Professor in the Music Department, University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests include musical cognitive development, music theory and performance, teacher development and the design of materials that foster such areas of development. Susan Hallam is Emerita Professor of Education and Music Psychology at the UCL Institute of Education. She was awarded an MBE in the 2015 New Year’s honours list for services to music education. Her research covers many diverse areas of musical development across the lifespan, including instrumental learning and the impact of music learning on other areas of development. Susan was Editor of Psychology of Music from 2001–2008.
